Update: Crowsnest Annexation Request Withdrawn
City Council initiates process of developing an Annexation Policy
In an update to our March 16th story, the City of Castle Pines has announced that Ventana has withdrawn its petition for annexation of Crowsnest. The withdrawal is pending approval of the City Council’s Resolution No. 26-23, which would direct staff to begin developing an Annexation Policy.
The City Council intends to consider Resolution No. 26-23 at their March 24th meeting. According to a statement on the City’s website, “The intent of this policy would be to establish criteria, informed by resident input, to guide future decisions on annexation applications submitted by property owners. If Resolution No. 26-23 is approved on March 24, public engagement to help develop the policy will be gathered later this year.”
All previously scheduled meetings and hearings related to the Crowsnest annexation are canceled. Since the petition has been withdrawn, the process would need to be restarted if the applicant should opt to resubmit.
According to the City’s statement, “Restarting this process would involve resubmitting a petition to annex the property, reviewing the petition for substantial compliance with State law, conducting an Eligibility Hearing, and holding first and second readings for the annexation and annexation agreement.”
